List of Louisiana governors from first to last

Louisiana joined the Union on April 30, 1812, becoming the 18th state to do so. This was after the United States acquired the territory from France in 1803 through the Louisiana Purchase, which significantly expanded U.S. territory and paved the way for further westward expansion.

William Charles Cole Claiborne became the first governor of the state of Louisiana on July 30, 1812.
